The history boys and the dead poets society - a comparison

No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.
_John Keating

I found this review where the reviewer loved the history boys and felt it necessary to trash the dead poets society as a consequence. example:
The movie showed soulless patriarchs driving tender adolescents to suicide for the crime of reading poetry aloud in the woods.

way to miss the point! *rolls eyes* he killed himself because he didnt want to go to military school and then be forced to be a doctor.

My point is more that actually you cant compare the two because of the ocean that divides them (set as they are on different land masses). the dead poets society is a movie about repressed little american boys in a sad private boarding school. unloved by their parents, subdued by bad teaching and too many rules. the history boys is about thriving little oxbridge candidates from Sheffield. who are on hyper-casual terms with their teachers. example:
You're very young, sir. This isn't your gap year is it, sir?
yes they're both about teaching and teachers but thats about all they have in common. the dead poets society is not a brit filum and hence cannot be judged in brit filum terms. and its not meant to be a comedy. it would make sense to compare the history boys with say the school of rock maybe...

I didn't want to turn out boys who in later life had a deep love of literature, or who would talk in middle age of the lure of language and their love of words. 'Words' said in that reverential way that is somehow Welsh.
